RE: Campgrounds in or near Chanute, Kansas

Yes there is a city campground there not too far from the HitchHiker factory. I assume that is where you are headed since there isn't much in Chanute other than that. I don't think it is full hookups but there is water & electric for sure with a dump station right there. If you need more info PM me. Becky

RE: On The Road To Alaska

Tammy63
We have been to AK in our RV twice before & will be going again leaving on May 16, also leaving from Oklahoma . In '04 it took us 8 days to get from southern OK to Tok AK & in '06 it took us 7. I don't recommend traveling that many miles per day. There will be some days that you can easily do 400 miles & some you won't want to do more than maybe 250. Once you get to Whitehorse the roads are generally bad enough to slow you down significantly. If you have any more questions PM me. Have a good trip. Becky

RE: Have you ever had a blowout that damaged your camper.....

We had blow outs on Goodyears two separate times & each time Goodyear paid for new tires & the damage without hesitation. Neither time the damage wasn't extensive, but with all the little parts that had to be replaced it sure added up amazingly fast. I am diligent in regards to tire pressures, load limits, etc so I knew for sure that I had done nothing to cause the blowouts. The tests that Goodyear did on the carcass of the blown tires confirmed that. I'd give them a call for sure. Good luck. Mac

RE: windshield covers for car

We got ours for the Honda at Coastline Cover( www.coastlinecover.com ) in Rancho Cucamonga California. It is easy to install & works very well. They can make one to fit any car. Good luck. Mac

Haines Alaska, Worth the Drive or Not??

We have driven to Alaska numerous times but have yet to drive down to Haines. We have driven to Skagway & taken the ferry across to Haines but are wondering if it is worth the trip to drive to Haines with fuel costs being what they are?? Opinions please. Thanks.

RE: Internet Cafes and Wi Fi

On our recent trips we have not had any problem finding wifi. If all else the local libraries have it, so it's up to you about buying a laptop but I don't leave home without mine. It's a must to keep in touch with family/friends & bill pay. Becky

RE: Best way to clean Day/Night shades

I realize that you said you had rather not take them down but I thought I would share my experience with you anyway just in case you decided to give it a try. This is what I did & it worked beautifully! After taking the shade down I laid it on the patio table (table needs to be large enough to completely support the shades). I lightly dampened the shade with the water hose, sprayed it LIBERALLY with Simple Green & let it set for a few minutes. Next I used a soft bristle brush to lightly brush the entire width & length of the shade. Lastly I hosed it off with water & while Mac held them up I dried the table off a bit to remove the excess water & left them laying on the table in the sunshine until they were almost dry then I pushed them up so that the pleats would set in good & left them to completely dry. They look brand new now. BTW, my shades are linen colored, darker colored shade could fade. Good luck. Becky

RE: Need help regarding Laminate Flooring

Yes it is a glueless or floating floor & although I've never put one down I am concerned that maybe the flooring would "shift" under the slide area without something holding it down & end up getting caught. Thanks for the comments so far. Mac

Need help regarding Laminate Flooring

I have done a search & couldn't come up with an answer to my question so I am asking you folks that have installed laminate flooring in your rv. Where the laminate goes underneath the slide did you tack, glue or otherwise attach that area to prevent it from catching on the slide? I don't think that would be a problem in my moho anyway, but I am curious to know whether it has been a problem (real or perceived) for anyone that has put laminate in. If so how did you handle it? Thanks for your help. Mac

RE: cleaning day/night shades

Jim-
The day/night shades at our dining table had some sort of stains on them when we bought our motor home. I figured I would have to replace them but decided since I had nothing to lose anyway I would try cleaning them. This is what I did & it worked beautifully! After taking the shade down I laid it on the patio table (table needs to be large enough to completely support the shades). I sprayed it LIBERALLY with Simple Green & let it set for a few minutes. Next I dampened the shade with the water hose & used a light bristle brush to lightly brush the entire width & length of the shade. Lastly I hosed it off with water & while Mac held them up I dried the table off a bit to remove the excess water & left them laying on the table in the sunshine until they were completely dry. They look brand new now. If you have any questions you can PM me & I will do my best to answer your questions. Becky

Yep, Newburg KOA gets our vote too. Nice campground away, but not too far away from NYC. Enjoy. Becky

RE: Television in Canada/Alaska ????

Your satellite dish will not work in Alaska, it's too small. We rarely watch tv while in AK & don't usually stay in commercial campgrounds so can't tell you about cable connections. Enjoy your trip. Becky

We've made many trips to Alaska & boondocked all over & never had any problems whatsoever nor have we seen anyone that had any of those problems. Not sure what the guy is talking about, but sounds rather bizarre to me!!
